Description
Model history :
Designed by Joachim Metz, Joies d’Hiver is inspired by the Parisian winter scenes of the late XIXᵉ century, a time when frozen ponds became the scene of high society’s refined leisure activities. The square is in keeping with Hermès creations celebrating the seasons and pleasures of yesteryear, and is distinguished by the narrative richness of its composition and its homage to the bygone traditions of Parisian winters. This work by Metz is appreciated for its attention to detail and its faithful evocation of Belle Époque elegance.
Details :
The scarf features an ice-blue border, decorated with gray scrolls and gilded plant ornaments reminiscent of the wrought-iron motifs typical of Belle Époque decors. Stylized rosettes adorn the corners of the square. In the background, bare trees frame the scene, evoking the winter landscapes of the snow-covered Bois de Boulogne.
The center of the square depicts a lively skating rink, where ladies in long dresses adorned with ribbons and gentlemen in frock coats, top hats and bowler hats glide gracefully across the ice. Several small tableaux unfold: a couple waltzing, children playing, a woman rescued after a fall. The central medallion features two young women holding hands in fluid, synchronized movement. The design is enriched by floral motifs and discreet architectural details that give rhythm to the composition.
Product condition :
This square is in excellent condition for a vintage piece. The silk retains all its lustre and softness, with no visible stains or discoloration. The hand-rolling is even and firm, the prints remain crisp and the colors vivid.
Maintenance Tips :
To preserve the quality of the silk twill and the luminosity of the colors, we recommend that this scarf be cleaned by a dry-cleaning specialist. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight for long periods, and store it flat or wrapped in a cotton cover.
