This very rare Chanel Shopping Basket bag, from the Fall/Winter 2014 collection named “Chanel shopping center”, embodies the creative audacity of Karl Lagerfeld. Created for the Chanel fashion show, perhaps the most impressive to date, this model, combining silver metal and black leather, is part of a limited series and stands out as an exceptional collector’s item.
Citing the consumerist imagery of pop art, Andy Warhol and Andreas Gursky’s 99 cent among his sources of inspiration, Lagerfeld conceived this fashion show as a supermarket, because “art has become a product” he tells the journalist. The clothes and accessories in the show thus echoed consumer society, with 2.55 bags covered in “100% lamb” stickers, buttons in the shape of can lids, and over 500 decorative objects adorned with witty names and labels, such as “Lait de Coco” or “Eau de Chanel” on mineral water bottles.
This Shopping Basket bag, inspired by the shape of a shopping basket, perfectly embodies this concept: an interpretation of modern consumerism, sublimated by a touch of humor and haute couture.
